Lauri was born in Finland where he represented his country in the FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship. He moved to the United States to attend the University of Arizona where he played with the Wildcats.

Lauri’s imposing 7-foot made him an exceptional shooter, averaging 30 points in a game against Arizona State University. However, he decided to forgo three years of college to play in the NBA.
This Finnish giant was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves but his rights were traded to the Chicago Bulls on draft night. In his first match with the Bulls, Lauri scored an impressive 17 points and scored a career-high 32 points playing against the Indiana Pacers. He ended the season being named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.
He has been compared to some of the greatest shooters like Michael Jordan for his remarkable 35 points per game.
Lauri moved to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2021 where he started as a small forward. A year later he was bought by the Utah Jazz and in December 2022, he scored a career-high 38 points.
