About Lazzaro Spallanzani
Lazzaro Spallanzani, who was of Italian descent, was a psychologist, biologist and priest in the Catholic Church.
Personal Life
He was the son of Lucia Zigliani and Gianniccolo Spallanzani who worked as a lawyer. His father loved him but was unhappy with his studies considering he spent more time studying animals than he spent studying books.
He schooled at Jesuit Seminary as a teenager and even though he did not want to, his father teamed up with a few people he greatly respected and urged him to study at University of Bologna where he majored in Law. He, however, changed his mind after some time and studied science.
Career
He worked with University of Reggio as a logic, Greek and metaphysics professor then after some time, he continued his teaching at University of Modena. He then ignored several offers and worked with University of Pavia as the natural history chair.
Death
He was an incredible teacher and helped his students in their field of study but in 1799, he passed away due to bladder cancer. When he died, his infected bladder was used for study and later displayed in a Pavia Museum.
