About Lee Miller
Lee Miller was exposed to photography when she was very young but started her career as a model. Her rise to fame began in 1927 when she covered an edition of the Vogue magazine which was released later that year.
As a photographer
Miller decided to go into photography in 1929 when she moved to France to set up her photography studio. She returned to the United States in 1932 and started working with some popular celebrities like Helena Rubinstein, and Elizabeth Arden.
She was highly-rated for her fine arts and fashion photography which earned her a spot at the 1932 Modern European Photography. Miller was famously known for her time with Vogue magazine during WWII where she worked as the publication’s correspondent. During that period, she captured some memorable events such as the liberation of Paris, and the London Blitz.
Family
She was introduced to photography by her father, Theodore Miller. Her mother was called Florence MacDonald and grew up with two brothers named Erik and Johnny Miller.
The American photographer had a child with English poet and artist Roland Penrose named Antony Penrose. Before marrying Roland, she was the wife of Aziz Eloui Bey.
Education
She attended Vassar College to study drama. Miller later moved to the Art Students League of New York, Manhattan.
Trivia
Her works inspired some renowned fashion designers like Alexander McQueen and Frida Giannini.
Her career received a boost when she came into contact with Vogue’s Condé Nast when she was 19.
