About Leon Spinks
Leon Spinks took the boxing world by storm when in February 1978 (exactly 13 months after making his professional debut), he beat the then-undisputed heavyweight champion, Muhammad Ali.
Seven months after his shocking win, he faced Ali again and lost his WBA heavyweight title to him. His performances in the ring afterwards were mainly lacklustre.
As an amateur boxer, he represented the United States at the 1974 World Championships, 1975 Pan American Games and 1976 Olympic Games. He also wrestled professionally in the 1990s.
Family Life
He grew up in St. Louis. He was married to a woman named Brenda. He lost one of his two sons to murder in 1990.
Achievements
Out of 46 professional fights, he won 26; 14 of them by knockout. He received a gold medal at the Summer Olympic Games in Montreal.
Death
He died on 5 February 2021 aged 67.
