The Band
Levon Helm was an American musician who is best known for his association with the roots rock group The Band until their last performance in 1976. Although capable of playing multiple instruments, Helm was most notable for his easily recognizable vocals and creative style when helming the drums for the band.
Going Solo
As a solo artist, Helm released six studio albums, the most notable of which are the Grammy Award-winning Dirt Farmer (2007) and Electric Dirt (2009); one of his six live albums, Ramble at the Ryman (2011), also won a Grammy Award.
Acting Chops
After The Band’s final act in 1976, Helm forayed into acting. Some of the films he appeared in include the biographical Coal Miner's Daughter (1980), the epic drama The Right Stuff (1983), and the conspiracy action thriller Shooter (2007).
