About Lewis Latimer
Lewis Howard Latimer began gathering experience for his career as a patent consultant in 1865 when he got an office boy job at a patent law firm. Before then, he had spent two years in the US Navy as a Landsman. He became famous for patenting inventions such as the incandescent light bulb and working with other inventors such as Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Edison. Besides his work in patenting, he was also an author and teacher.
Family Life
He was the son of the famous runaway slave, George Latimer, and his wife, Rebecca. He had siblings named William, Margaret and George. He was married to Mary Wilson Lewis from 1873 until her death in 1924. Together, they had two daughters called Louise Rebecca and Emma Jeanette.
Achievements
He was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame for his contribution to the techniques involved in manufacturing electric filament.
Death
He passed away aged 80 in Flushing, Queens, New York City on December 11, 1928.
