About Lewis Turco
A defender of Formalist poetry, the American poet and writer has served as a Professor Emeritus of English Writing Arts at SUNY College at Oswego. Turco is an inductee of the Meriden, Connecticut Hall of Fame.
Early Years
A product of the University of Connecticut and the University of Iowa, his love for poetry developed in his teens and continued on while in the Navy.
Notable Works
Turco has authored over 50 books, monographs and top-rated poems. His published works include the new book of form visions and revisions of American poetry and the shifting web of new and selected poems. The writer has teamed up with various artists on projects over the course of his career. These include printmaker Thomas Seawell in poemprints, such as “Image Tinged with No Color”. His poem, “November 22, 1963”, inspired the ballet “While the Spider Slept”.
Recognition
In 1992, he received a Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Alumni Association of the University of Connecticut.
Trivia
During The Family Exhibition in 1991, some of his poems were showcased by the Peconic Gallery of Riverhead, New York.
