Early Life
Balaban spent most of her youth days in North York, a district in Toronto, Canada. As the daughter of a father who worked in real estate and a mother who was a medical secretary, the young actress lived quite comfortably. She began high school at the Lawrence Park College Institute and moved to Ryerson University. She dropped out and enrolled in Concordia University, receiving a bachelor's degree in political science.
Career
Passionate about acting, the Canadian made her debut in 1999 in "Waterford Girl", which jumpstarted her career immensely. She later starred in more other roles till she landed a significant role in 2001, when she starred in "After Harvest". 2008 was a good year for Balaban since she starred in many movies such as "Last Chance Harvey" and “One Week”. Her performance in the latter earned her a Genie Award nomination for “Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role”.
In the 2010s, she appeared in a host of TV shows, including “Republic of Doyle”, “Rookie Blue”, “Saving Hope”, and “Alphas”, among others.
In 2021, she was cast as Safiye in the film “Woman in Car”. Directed and written by Vanya Rose, the actress starred alongside Anthony Lemke and Hélène Joy.
Personal Life
Balaban married Patrick John Costello in 2013. They have a son who was born in 2016.
