About Lord Baden Powell
Lord Baden Powell served as a member of the British Army in Africa and India between 1876 and 1910. He is famous for having founded the Scout Movement and later, the Girl Scout with Agnes Baden-Powell, his sister.
He also wrote and illustrated the early editions of the Boy Scout training book, “Scouting for Boys: A handbook for instruction in good citizenship”.
Family Life
He was born Robert Stephenson Smyth Powell to English mathematician and priest of the Church of England, Reverend Professor Baden Powell and Henrietta Grace Smyth.
He had nine elder siblings; with the first four being from his father’s previous marriages. He was married to Olave St. Claire Soames from 1912 until his death. They had three children.
Achievements
He was the recipient of 29 state (both local and foreign) decorations, including the British Order of Merit. He was also a recipient of multiple Nobel Peace Prize nominations, the Silver Wolf Award and Bronze Wolf Award.
Death
He died at 83 on 8 January 1941.
