Loretta Lynn was a Country music legend who had a wonderful career, spanning over 60 years. The singer and songwriter contributed significantly to the country music industry, and was famous for several hits including 1968's "Fist City", 1970's "Coal Miner’s Daughter" her highly controversial tune, "The Pill".
Her Personal Life
Loretta was married at age 15 to Oliver Lynn. Loretta and Oliver were married from 1926 until he passed away in 1996. Oliver was also known as “Doolittle”. He bought Loretta her first guitar and she taught herself how to play. Doolittle encouraged her to start her own band. She started “Loretta and the Trailblazers” with her brother. Loretta’s music inspirations came from her marriage and her upbringing. Her autobiography “The Coal Miner’s Daughter” was made into an Academy Award winning movie starring Sissy Spacek.
Her father, Marvin Webb, was a coal miner. She was a sister to country music stars Peggy Sue Wright and Crystal Gayle.
Highlights
In 2013, Loretta received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Loretta won several Grammy Awards including 2 in 2005 for the album “Van Lear Rose”. She also received over 15 Grammy nominations.
Trivia
She suffered a stroke in 2017. The following year, Lynn suffered a broken hip after a fall.
The country music icon passed away peacefully at her home in Tennessee, U.S.
She was named after the famous American actress Loretta Young.
