About Louis Lumiere
Louis Lumiere is credited with being one of the pioneer revolutionaries of the photography and cinema industries. The French engineer, inventor and industrialist started a photographic plate production factory when he was just 18 years old, a year after his invention of the dry plate for film development.
In 1895, he invented the cinématographe, a motion-picture camera with a projector with inspiration from the Kinetoscope by Thomas Edison. He released “La Sortie des ouvriers de l’usine Lumière”, which is regarded as the world’s first motion picture.
Family Life
His father, Claude-Antoine was a painter who became a photographer. His mother’s name was Jeanne-Josephine. He and his elder brother, Auguste Lumiere were collectively known as the Lumiere Brothers and under this name, they shared patents of individual inventions.
Achievements
He was conferred with the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour in 1939. He was also posthumously honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960.
