Former Spanish footballer, Luis Aragonés Suárez was known during his playing time in Atletico Madrid from 1964 to 1974. The former footballer also doubled as a manager and won the 2008 UEFA European Championship as the manager of Spain.
Life as a Player
The Spanish footballer made his debut for Getafe in 1957 and stayed with the team till 1958. He later joined Real Madrid from 1958 to 1960 but left for Plus Ultra in 1960. Before moving to Plus Ultra, he had short spells with Recreativo Huelva and Hercules from 1958 to 1960. Later, he played for Oviedo from 1960 to 1961 before moving to Real Betis and finally Atletico Madrid from 1964 to 1974. His time with Atletico saw him record more than 200 appearances and over 100 goals.
Coaching Career
Aragonés’ coaching career was quite successful. He has coached popular teams such as Atletico Madrid on 3 occasions, from 1974 to 1980, 1991 to 1993 and 2001 to 2003. Aragonésa also became the manager of Barcelona from 1987 to 1988, Sevilla from 1993 to 1995 and Fenerbahce, which saw his brilliance from 2008 to 2009. He also coached the national team of Spain from 1964 to 1972.
Personal Life
He married his wife, Pepa Fernandez in 2014 and they had 5 children as of 2021.
