About Lusia Harris
Legendary American basketball player Lusia Harris was regarded as one of the big names of women's basketball. She succeeded in high school since she had a strong enthusiasm for athletics.
When Harris was a student at Delta State, she helped her team win three consecutive AIAW national championships and was voted MVP each season. It was at this time that Harris became well-known. During the same time, she also made basketball history by winning the first Honda Sports Award.
After graduating from Delta State, she was chosen by the New Orleans Jazz during the 1977 NBA Draft, making her the first and woman ever to be picked by an NBA franchise.
In 1976, the first year that women's basketball was featured in the Olympics, Harris was also notable for representing the United States.
