About Lux Interior
Born Erick Lee Purkhiser, Lux Interior was an American rock singer renowned for creating the “psychobilly” punk rock. He was a product of Stow High School and had most of his music career with his wife with whom he recorded and performed in the same groups.
Career
Albums
Lux founded “The Cramps” punk band with his wife, Kristy Wallace (also known as Poison Ivy), in 1972. They recorded their first 5-track EP “Gravest Hits” in 1979 and another EP in 1983 titled “Smell of Female”.
From there The Cramps released several albums including “Stay Sick” in 1990 and “How to Make a Monster” in 2004. In 1986 they released their third studio album “A Date with Elvis”, which did reasonably well on UK and US Billboards Top 40 and 100 respectively. The album is considered by many as one of the band’s most commercially successful works.
Lux was the vocalist while Kristy was the lead guitarist in most performances. The band had featured drummers Jim Sclavunos and Nick Knox, and bass guitarist Bryan Gregory.
Films
Some of The Cramps’ songs got featured in the films “The Return of the Living Dead” in 1985 and “Pixie” in 2020.
Death
He died on February 4, 2009, aged 62. The musician was survived by his widow Ivy and son called Mischa Shane Graef.
Trivia
Lux Interior was famous for putting a whole microphone head in his mouth, showing partial nude and high-heeled shoes while he performed vigorously on stage.
