About M. F. Husain
F. Husain was an award-winning Indian artist who was described as one of the best to have originated from the country. Although he was a student of the modernism movement, Husain has been credited for modifying the Cubist style. His works were mostly on key public figures such as Mother Teresa, and Mahātmā Gandhi.He was one of the earliest members of the Bombay Progressive Artists' Group. His works on some religious figures caused lots of controversies and was sued on many occasions.
As a filmmaker
Aside from his work as an artist, Husain was also into movie production. His work as the director and writer of the 1967 film “Through the Eyes of a Painter” earned him the “Best Experimental Film” prize at the National Film Award which was held later that year.
Other films that he worked on included “Gaja Gamini” and “Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities” which was released in 2004.
Family
He had a son with Fazila called Owais Husain who would later become an artist and filmmaker.
Education
Husain was a product of the Sir Jamsetjee Jeejebhoy School of Art.
Awards
His works earned him many awards which included the Padma Vibhushan, International Biennale Award, and the National Art Award.
Trivia
He became a citizen of Qatar in 2010.
On his birthday in 2015, Google introduced a Doodle to celebrate his life.
