M. Scott Peck was a renowned American psychiatrist and author whose best-known works include The Road Less Traveled and People of the Lie published in 1978 and 1983 respectively. His books have been translated into numerous languages and sold millions of copies worldwide.
He was born to Elizabeth and David Peck, who was a judge. In 1959, he got married to Lily Ho, with whom he had three children. He and Lily separated in 2004 and subsequently got divorced. His second marriage was to Kathleen Kline Yates.
In his youth, he served in the United States Army and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel.
He confessed to having extramarital affairs in his 1995 book In Search of Stones.
He suffered from Parkinson's disease before his death in 2005.
