About Mahathir Mohamad
Mahathir Mohamad is one of the long-serving Malaysian politicians of his generation. He became the country’s Prime Minister between 1981 and 2003. He also held that position from 2018 to 2020. He represented the Langkawi constituency at the Malaysian’s Parliament. He spent most of his political career with the United Malays National Organization.
He made his first appearance in Parliament in 1964 and has since been a regular face in the house. Mohamad was also named as the Minister for Education in 1974 after he was appointed as a Senator the previous year.
Family
He’s the son of Wan Tempawan, and Mohamad Iskandar. In 1956, he got married to Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, a medical doctor by profession. They have seven children namely Marina, Mokhzani, Mazhar, Maizura, Melinda , Mukhriz, and Mirzan.
Achievements
He has received many honors, both locally and internationally. Some of them are Knight Grand Commander of the Order of the Crown of Johor, Grand Commander of the Order of the Defender of the Realm, Grand Cordon of the Order of Merit (Lebanon), and Order of Friendship (Russia).
