Mahatma Gandhi was an Indian politician and activist. He is known as "The honorific Mahatma".
He was the leader of the Indian independence movement in British-ruled India. He was imprisoned for many years in South Africa and India, though he was non-violent. He is regarded as "The father of the nation" in India and his birthday is The International Day of Non-Violence.
He was nominated 5 times for the Nobel Peace Prize, but he never received it.
