About Manolete
Manolete was an accomplished Spanish bull fighter who came into the spotlight after the Spanish Civil War ended in 1939. His performances etched him in the annals of history as one of the greatest bullfighters to ever exist.
Life & Death
The former great bullfighter hailed from Cordoba and was born into a family of bull fighters as his father and great-uncle were both bull fighters. He lost his father when he was five years old. Manolete’s career began at the age of 17, he was struggling in the beginning but he showed that he was brave and that impressed the crowd.
He later on formed the “Cordovan Caliphs” with two other boys and worked hard to make ends meet. His style of fighting was called “suerte de la Muerte”, which translates as the kill. His performances in a year were as many as 100, and out of the 100, he got hurt about 10 times.
Manolete died around the time that he announced his retirement. He died in August 1947 when he got fatally wounded in his upper right leg as he killed his fifth bull of the day.
