About Marcel Marceau
French mime artist and actor Marcel Marceau put up performances all over the world during his career which spanned more than 60 years. He was famous and is remembered best today for his “Bip the Clown” stage character which he first launched in 1947. He performed extensively in Paris, France and went on tours of the United States, Europe, Africa, South America, Japan, Australia, South East Asia, China, Russia and Taiwan. He founded the pantomime school, École Internationale de Mimodrame de Paris, Marcel Marceau in 1978.
Family Life
He was the son of kosher butcher Charles Mangel and his wife, Anne Werzberg. Both his first and third marriages, to Huguette Mallet and Anne Sicco respectively, produced two children. He did not have any children with his second wife, Elle Jaroszewicz.
Achievements
He was the recipient of an Emmy Award and the 1998 French National Order of Merit.
Death
He died on September 22, 2007 at a Cahors, France-based retirement home.
