About Marcello Malpighi
Marcello Malpighi was a 17th Century physician who was considered as the Father of embryology and physiology. He is regarded as the pioneer of the study of modern-day medicine. The Italian biologist has been credited for discovering the correlation between veins and arteries.
Malpighi was one of the first scientists to use a microscope to study the red blood cells. Considered an expert in the study of both animals and plants, Malpighi was able to prove that insects breathe without using lungs. His 1666 publication titled “De polypo cordis” has helped in the study of blood composition.
Family
He lost both his parents before his 26th birthday.
Education
The famous physician attended the University of Bologna where he read Aristotelian philosophy.

In the study of biology, a number of concepts have been named after him. Some of these concepts are the ‘Malpighian tubule system’ and the ‘Malpighian corpuscles’.
He published some literature works with the most popular ones titled “De viscerum structura exercitation” and “Dissertatio epistolica de formatione pulli in ovo”.
During his time at the University of Pisa, he developed a great relationship with mathematician Giovanni Borelli.
