About Margaret of Anjou
A member of the House of Valois-Anjou, Margaret of Anjou served as the Queen of the Kingdom of England between 1445 and 1461. As the wife of King Henry VI, she regained the position after her husband ascended the throne again in 1470.
She played instrumental roles during the Wars of the Roses which were fought during the 15th Century. Due to her husband’s mental challenges, she mostly handled the affairs of the kingdom. She occasionally served as the Queen of France, though she wasn’t officially crowned as one.
Family
She was one of the children of Isabella, Duchess of Lorraine; and René, King of Naples. She and King Henry VI had a son named Edward of Westminster, Prince of Wales.
Trivia
She was taken as a prisoner after the Battle of Tewkesbury.
The Queen inspired the novel titled “The Passionate Queen” which was published in 1966 by Barnaby Ross.
