About Marie Laveau
Marie Laveau, also known as the “Voodoo Queen”, was a famed American 19th century voodoo priestess and occultist regarded as the most powerful and eminent of all the voodoo queens from New Orleans.
Personal Life
She was the daughter of the Charles LaVeau, who was a onetime Mayor of New Orleans. In 1819, she got married to Jacques Paris. After Jacques disappeared mysteriously and was presumed dead, she got married to Christophe Dominick Duminy de Glapion and mothered seven children with him, including Marie LaVeau II, who also became a famed voodoo practitioner and succeeded her.
Trivia
After her death on June 15, 1881, a number of people claimed they saw her walking on the streets of New Orleans.
According to local lore, the tomb where she was buried has the power to grant wishes.
In 2013, her tomb was vandalized. The authorities never identified the culprit(s).
