About Mario Lemieux
Mario Lemieux, also known by the nicknames “The Magnificent One” and “Super Mario”, is a celebrated Canadian retired ice hockey player who spent his entire National Hockey League (NHL) career playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins. He is regarded as one of the greatest players the sport has ever seen.
Personal Life
He is the youngest of the three sons born to Pierrette and Jean-Guy Lemieux. In 1993, he got married to Nathalie Asselin. The union produced four children.
Achievements
As a player, he helped Pittsburgh win the 1991 and 1992 Stanley Cup Finals.
He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame and Canada's Walk of Fame in 1997 and 2004 respectively.
He was a member of the Canada national men's hockey team that won Gold in the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Trivia
In 1999, he became owner of the Pittsburgh Penguins after buying the team out of bankruptcy.
