2008 National Book Award for Poetry winner Mark Doty is credited with penning "Turtle, Swan" in 1987. The work, which was his first notable work, is regarded by many as one his most famous.
Early Life
The poet was born to Lawrence and Ruth Doty and lived out his childhood in Tennessee. He later graduated from Drake University and went on to graduate from Goddard College with a master's degree.
Career
Doty's career took a significant leap after the release of his debut poetry collection called "Turtle, Swan". He went on to release other collections that again received good acclaim. Some of those works of his are "Bethlehem in Broad Daylight" in 1991, "Atlantis" in 1995, "A Swarm, A Flock, A Host. Prestel" in 2013 and "Deep Lane" in 2015.
Personal Life
Doty is openly gay. He was first married to Paul Lisicky from 2008 to 2013. He remarried Alexander Hadel in 2015.
