About Mark Rothko
Mark Rothko was a Russian-American painter regarded as one of the most prominent figures in the entire history of the Abstract Expressionist movement. Some of his most notable paintings include 1950’s White Center (Yellow, Pink and Lavender on Rose), 1961’s Orange, Red, Yellow, 1951’s No. 6(Violet, Green and Red) and 1954’s No 1 (Royal Red and Blue).
Personal Life
He was married twice and fathered two children: Kate and Christopher Rothko.
Trivia
He spoke a number of languages including English, Russian and Yiddish.
He and his family relocated from Russia to the United States when he was 10 years old.
He committed suicide in 1970 after overdosing on anti-depressants. His lifeless body was discovered in a pool of blood next to a razor that he used in slicing his arms.
A number of his paintings have over the years made it into the list of the most expensive paintings in the world.
