About Mark Rutte
Mark Rutte had a very successful business career before going into politics. He spent most of his early years with Unilever and its subsidiaries before he was appointed as the State secretary at Netherland’s Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment in 2002.
He was voted into the House of Representatives in 2003. The following year, he was selected as the State Secretary for Education, Culture and Science. As a member of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy, he was elected as the leader of the political group in 2006.
After leading the party to victory in 2010, Rutte became Netherland’s Prime Minister. In 2021, his mandate was renewed for the fourth time.
Family
He was raised by his parents, Hermina Cornelia Dilling and Izaäk Rutte alongside seven siblings.
Education
Rutte attended Leiden University where he read history.
Decorations
This popular politician has received laurels from many countries including Belgium’s Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Crown and the Honorary Companion of the Order of Australia.
Trivia
He’s also a recognized teacher and is best known for his time with Johan de Witt College.
Growing up, his dream was to become a pianist.
As at May 2022, he was the Netherland’s second longest-serving premier.
