Marshall McLuhan was a renowned Canadian philosopher of communication theory, author and professor of English who gained worldwide reputation for coining terms like “global village”, “the medium is the message” and “hot and cold media”. He predicted the birth of the World Wide Web almost three decades before it was invented. His most notable works include 1964's Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man and 1967's The Medium Is the Message: An Inventory of Effects.
Family Life
He was the son of Elsie Naomi and Herbert Ernest McLuhan. He had a younger brother named Maurice McLuhan. He married Corinne Lewis in 1939. The couple had two sons and four daughters.
Trivia
In the late 1960s, he suffered from a brain tumor.
