About Mary I of England
Mary I of England was an English monarch who served as the Queen of England and Ireland from 1553 until her death in 1558. She is best remembered for her re-establishment of Roman Catholicism. Her five-year reign as Queen was characterized by the rampant executions of Protestants. These executions eventually led to her nickname Bloody Mary.
Family Life
She was the only child of Henry VIII and his first wife Catherine of Aragon to survive infancy. She married Phillip II of Spain in 1554. The marriage produced no children and ended with her death in 1558.
Trivia
Since she had no children, she was succeeded by her younger half-sister Elizabeth I.
