About Mary Oliver
Mary Oliver’s love for nature was the inspiration behind most of her works making her widely regarded as one of the most influential poets of her time. She published her first poem collection in 1963 which was entitled “No Voyage and Other Poems”. The award-winning American poet went on to publish many books with some titled “American Primitive” and “Twelve Moons”.
Personal Life
She was privileged to spend her early years with her parents Helen M. Vlasak and Edward William Oliver. She was the partner of photographer Molly Malone Cook for more than four decades.
Education
Oliver was a product of Vassar College and Ohio State University.
Awards
In 1982, she was honored with the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. She also received the National Book Award for Poetry in 1992. Some awards that she won were the Shelley Memorial Award, and the Lannan Literary Award.
Trivia
Before publishing her first book, she worked for the sister of renowned poet Edna St. Vincent Millay.
She was also a lecturer at Case Western Reserve University.
