Career Highlights
In childhood, Massimo wrote poems and appeared in stage performances at local theatres and he was leader of the Saraceni trio which he formed with friends De Caro and Arena.
Massimo wrote and directed “Ricomincio da tre” and “Morta Troisi, viva Troisi” among other films in which he had roles in as well.
Honors
His 1987 comedy-drama film “Le Vie Del Signore Sono Finite” earned him Silver Ribbon for best screenplay in 1987. His role in the 1984 comedy-drama film “Il Postino” earned him a posthumous Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
Health and Death
He suffered cardiac complications, and, after his mother’s demise, the condition worsened and he had a valve surgery in America in 1976. In 1994, hours after the shooting of Michael Radford’s “Il Postino”, which Massimo wrote and also starred in, he died of a heart attack at 41 years.
