Mateja Kežman is a veteran Serbian professional soccer player. He played as a striker and had an accomplished career across Europe and Asia, which spanned from 1996 to 2012. After his retirement, he became a sports agent and represented several footballers.
Background & Early Career
He was born in Belgrade, SR Serbia, SFR Yugoslavia.
In 1998 and at age 19, he joined Partizan. He became the club’s prolific striker and was the top scorer in the domestic league in the 1999–2000 season.
Club Career
His career at PSV, which spanned from 2000 to 2004, is arguably his most notable soccer years. He netted 105 goals in 122 appearances for the Dutch giants. The fans nicknamed him “Batman.” His scoring abilities were crucial to the team’s victory of the 2002–03 Eredivisie, in which he was named the Dutch Footballer of the Year.
He played for Chelsea in the 2004-05 season and Atletico Madrid in the 2005-06 season. The player joined Fenerbahçe in 2006 and stayed there until 2009, scoring 30 goals in 69 appearances. From 2008 to 2012, he played for Paris Saint-Germain, Zenit Saint Petersburg, South China, and BATE Borisov.
International Career
He earned 49 caps and scored 17 goals for Serbia and Montenegro during his 6-year international career (2000–2006).
