Mats Wilander got his big break in professional tennis in 1982, when he was just 17 years old. He emerged out of nowhere to win that year’s French Open, having made his professional debut two years prior. The Swedish retired tennis player peaked in rankings as the ATP’s World No. 1 player in 1988.
He is counted amongst only six male Grand Slam singles title holders to have won on hard courts, clay courts and grass courts. He is the winner of seven Grand Slam singles titles and one Grand Slam doubles title.
Family Life
He has been married to a South African-born model named Sonya Mulholland. He has four children.
Achievements
He was made an inductee of the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2002. He holds the record of the youngest player in history to have won four Grand Slam titles (at age 20).
