Matthew Montgomery Barkley, shortened as Mart Barkley, is an American professional footballer. He has carved out a promising career as a quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) since he got drafted in 2013.
Background & Early Career
He is from Newport Beach, California, and is an alumnus of Mater Dei High School, Santa Ana. Barkley had an excellent career as a high school quarterback. In 2007, he was honored with the Glenn Davis Award – the most prestigious award given to Southern California’s overall best high school footballer. In 2009, ESPN rated him as their number one high school football prospect.
Barkley attended the University of Southern California and played for the USC Trojans between 2009 and 2012.
Professional Career
The Philadelphia Eagles picked him during the fourth round as the 98th overall draft during the NFL’s 2013 Draft. He made his debut in the NFL on 20 October 2013.
From 2015 to 2021, he has spent spells at several NFL teams, including Arizona Cardinals, Cincinnati Bengals, Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers, Tennessee Titans, Buffalo Bills, and Carolina Panthers. However, injuries have taken a drastic toll on his career and resulted in deficient game time over the years.
Personal Life
He is a Christian and got married to Brittany Langdon a year after his college graduation in July 2013.
