About Matt Cooke
Canadian ice hockey star Matt Cooke played over a thousand games throughout his sixteen seasons in the NHL. Before ending his career in the league, he featured for teams like the Vancouver Canucks, Minnesota Wild, and the Pittsburgh Penguins. He helped the latter to win the coveted Stanley Cup in 2009.
With the left wing being his preferred position, Cooke was noted for his dangerous hits which included knee-on-knee crashes, and head-shots and was widely considered as one of the league’s "pests".
International career
Cooke was a regular member of the Canadian men’s ice hockey team during his playing career. He was a member of the team that won gold at the World Championships in 2004.
Personal Life
In 2001, he married a lady called Michelle with whom he created The Cooke Family Foundation of Hope.
Awards
In 2003, he won the Vancouver Canucks' Fred J. Hume Award.
Facts
In 2014, during the playoffs, he injured Tyson Barrie of the Minnesota Wild which got him a seven-match suspension.
He was named as the coach of Chaska High School’s boy’s hockey team in 2021.
He played under Don Cherry, who has been considered as an NHL great.
