About Maureen Lipman
Maureen Diane Lipman is an English television, film and theatre actress – she is also a comedian and author and she is best known for her roles in Educating Rita (1983), The Pianist (2002), and All at No 20 (1986-87).
Family Life
She was born to Maurice Julius Lipman, a tailor and Zelma Pearlman. She got married to a dramatist called Jack Rosenthal in 1974, however he passed on in 2004, leaving her with two children; writers, Adam and Amy Rosenthal.
Achievements
In 1994, Maureen received an honorary doctorate from the University of Hull.
She won the Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for Best Comedy Performance in 1985.
In 1999, she was made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE).
Her show titled Live and Kidding earned a nomination for a Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for Best Entertainment of the 1997 season.
For her performance in the 2002 film, The Pianist, she received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress during the 2003 Polish Film Awards.
Maureen won the Best Newcomer Award at The Inside Soap Awards in October 2019.
Trivia
She worked as a columnist for Good Housekeeping magazine, hence producing books such as Thank You For Having Me, How Was It For You? Lip Reading, Something To Fall Back On, and You Can Read me Like A Book.
She has been a member of the editorial advisory board for the Jewish Renaissance magazine.
