Maurice Jones-Drew, frequently called “MJD,” is a retired American football player. He played as a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for nine consecutive seasons (2006-2014). After his retirement, he entered into sports broadcasting and has hosted several shows on the NFL network.
Background & High School
He is from Oakland, California, and he grew up in Antioch, California. The player graduated from De La Salle High School, where he showed great talent as a running back of their football team, “The Spartans.” Throughout his 3-year varsity period, the Spartans never lost a single match he played.
College Career
He earned a football scholarship to enroll at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), in 2003. He then played college football for the UCLA Bruins from 2003 to 2005, in which he led them in rushing throughout the three years. He broke the NCAA’s single-season record in 2005, after reaching “28.5 yards per return average on fifteen punt returns.” He earned “unanimous All-American” in his final year.
Professional Career
After the Jacksonville Jaguars selected him in round two of the 2006 NFL Draft, he stayed with them until 2013. His final NFL season was with the Oakland Rivers in 2014. He was a three-time Pro Bowl player and the 2011 NFL rushing yards leader.
