About Maurice White
Maurice was an American musician who sang, wrote music and produced records. He was also the founder of “Earth, Wind and Fire”.
Personal Life
During his childhood days, he lived with his grandmother and became friends with David Porter and Booker T. Jones who were into music. He schooled in the Chicago Conservatory of Music after he moved to Chicago.
Career
During his time in Chicago, he started getting gigs in nightclubs around him to play drums then became a member of The Jazzmen in 1962. They later changed their name to “The Pharoahs”. When he left the band, he created “Earth, Wind and Fire” with Wade Flemons and Don Whitehead. Initially, they named the band “The Salty Peppers” before changing it. They released “LA La Time” which was a hit in their area. They went ahead to release more tracks and gained recognition.
Achievement
His band “Earth, Wind and Fire” was nominated a total of seventeen times and had received six Grammy awards as of 2019.
Death
In 2016, he passed away due to issues relating to Parkinson’s disease which he had struggled with for about twenty years.
