About Max Mirnyi
The tennis luminary won the hearts of many at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, which ended up his most showing at the Olympics. Together with Victoria Azarenka, he bagged a gold medal in mixed doubles for the first time in the history of Belarus.
Early Career
The Belarusian began playing his major ATP tournaments in 1996. He made his doubles debut with Kevin Ullyett at the 1997 Shanghai Open, where he won his first ATP title. The following year, he grabbed the ultimate prize in the mixed doubles with Serena Williams at 2 Grand Slam tournaments, the US Open and Wimbledon.
Later Career
While pursuing the Rotterdam title, he defeated competitors such as Mario Ancic and Raemon Sluiter. He was the first Belarusian tennis player to win a Grand Slam in doubles. At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, he appeared in the singles and doubles, but could not qualify to the semi-finals. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, he was defeated in the singles quarterfinals. In the doubles, he partnered with Vladimir Voltchkov but lost to the Bryan brothers in round two.
Accolade
The sportsman is credited as the first Belarusian tennis player to win ATP tournaments in both singles and doubles.
