About Max Steiner
Max Steiner was an influential figure in the theatre and film industries during the 20th Century. He was only a teenager when he began his professional career. During his blistering career, the Austrian composer recorded more than 250 film scores, and was mostly known for his works with Warner Bros., and RKO Pictures.
Some popular movies that he scored for were 1933’s “King Kong” and “Now, Voyager” which premiered in 1942. He also worked on many Broadway productions.
Family
He was the grandson of Austrian actor Maximilian Steiner, whom he was named after. Gabor Steiner and Marie Josefine were the names of his parents. He divorced Aubrey Steiner, Louise Klos, and Aubrey Steiner before marrying Leonette Steiner in 1947.
Education
He had his training at the Imperial Academy of Music.
Awards
He received 24 Academy Awards nominations of which he won three. He also won a Golden Globe Award.
Trivia
He has influenced other composers like James Newton Howard.
Steiner was the first person to be honored with Golden Globe Awards’ “Best Original Score” prize.
The renowned composer collaborated with many film directors including William Wyler and John Ford.
