Maya Soetoro-Ng is an American writer and educator best known for being the maternal half-sister of Barack Obama, the first African American President of the United States. She worked as a high-school teacher for a number of years before becoming a university professor. In 2011, she published a children's book titled Ladder to the Moon.

She is the daughter of Ann Dunham and Lolo Soetoro. She grew up with her only maternal half-brother Barack Obama. She also has a half-brother and a half-sister from her father's side. In 2003, she got married to Konrad Ng, with whom she mothered two daughters: Savita and Suhaila.
