His professional football career spanned between 1989 and 2007, during which he played entirely in Germany for “Karlsruher SC” and “Bayern Munich.” The player retired as one of the most successful attacking midfielders of the Bundesliga and German national team.

He was born in Karlsruhe, West Germany. By age six, he had begun playing football and was part of the youth teams of “SV Nordwest Karlsruhe” and “Karlrusher SC” from 1976 to 1992. However, he made his professional and Bundesliga debut at age 19 in 1990.
Senior Career Highlights
From 1989 to 1992, he was signed with “Karlsruher SC,” achieving 61 caps and scoring 12 goals across all competitions.
He joined Bundesliga giants “Bayern Munich” in July 1992 and stayed there until his retirement in 2007. In 15 consecutive seasons at Munich, he achieved 469 caps and scored 117 goals. Additionally, he won the 1996 UEFA Cup, 2001 UEFA Champions League, and eight Bundesliga titles with Bayern. Bayern Fans adored him for his incredibly creative playmaking and set-piece abilities.
He was a key player of the German national team from 1995 to 2002 and was part of their “Euro 1996” winning squad.
Coaching Career
In 2009 and 2010, he was the interim, assistant, and head manager for “Bayern Munich II.”
