About Mel Ferrer
Mel Ferrer’s acting career began in 1937 in front of a sizeable audience at a summer stock show. He later had the opportunity to appear on a Broadway stage with his first significant role in the 1940 play titled “Kind Lady”.
After a number of successful outings, Ferrer got his first screen role in 1949 when he played Scott Mason Carter in the film entitled “Lost Boundaries”. Moving forward, the American actor gained lots of fame for his performance in films such as “Knights of the Round Table” and “Scaramouche”
Career as a director
Columbia Pictures hired him in the 1940s to work as a film director. He was signed alongside some top filmmakers like Robert Gordon and William Castle. Through this partnership, he directed many successful films with some titled “Sergeant Mike” and “Ten Cents a Dance”.
He was born to a Cuban father named Dr. José María Ferrer, and an American mother called Mary Matilda Irene. His siblings were Dr. María Irené Ferrer, an educator and cardiologist; Dr. Jose M. Ferrer, a surgeon; and Teresa Ferrer, a writer.
He had six kids from his marriage to four women including British actress Audrey Hepburn with whom he had a son called Sean Hepburn Ferrer, a popular American author and movie producer.
Ferrer had his early education at New York-based Bovée School before studying at Canterbury Prep School. He also attended Princeton University, but abandoned it to pursue his acting career.
