About Melissa Auf der Maur
Melissa Auf der Maur developed a love for music at an early age which saw her work as a DJ while studying in the university. She started gaining attention in 1993 when she, together with Steve Durand, established the music group known as Tinker.
After a number of performances with the group, she joined the Los Angeles-based band named Hole. She helped them to complete a number of successful projects which include an album dubbed “Live Through This”.
Solo career
After performances with some well-known collectives like The Smashing Pumpkins, and The Chelsea, she embarked on a solo project in 2004. That same year, she issued her maiden album titled “Auf der Maur” which appeared in many charts across the world.
She followed it up with her second six years later. The project was entitled “Out of Our Minds”.
Family
Her parents Linda Gaboriau and Nick Auf der Maur both worked as journalists. She has been married to Tony Stone, a prominent filmmaker. The couple are blessed with a child called River.
Education
She attended Moving in New Directions High School, and Fine Arts Core Education School before she enrolled at Concordia University to study photography.
Trivia
She advocated for David Suzuki during the 2004 television series titled “The Greatest Canadian”.
In 2007, VH1 named her in their list of “100 Greatest Women of Rock & Roll”.
