About Melvin Purvis
After obtaining his law certificate, Melvin Purvis began his career as a lawyer. He worked for some years before joining the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in 1927. During his early years with the organization, he was made the leader of the Division of Investigation department in Cincinnati, Oklahoma City, and Birmingham.
Purvis gained national fame for leading various teams to capture many notorious criminals like Pretty Boy Floyd, Baby Face Nelson, and John Dillinger. His hard-core methods of interviewing criminals also made him an outstanding officer in the agency.

His father Melvin Horace Purvis, Sr. was a renowned businessman. His mother was called Janie Elizabeth.
Education
He had his law training at the University of South Carolina School of Law.
Death
Purvis died at his home with a gunshot wound on his head. Reports suggested that he accidentally shot himself in an attempt to remove tracer ammunition.

A video game published by Parker Brothers in 1937 titled "Melvin Purvis' 'G'-Men Detective Game" was to honor the renowned law enforcer.
