About Merian C. Cooper
Merian C. Cooper was a popular American aviator who worked with the US Air Force. He became a member of Georgia’s National Guard in 1916, and played a huge part in fighting Mexican army general Pancho Villa. With the service, Cooper also participated in the First World War and was assigned to the 201st Squadron in France.
He also served in the Polish Air Force. In late 1919, while with the Polish army, Cooper established the Kościuszko Squadron. He reached the Podpułkownik rank before retiring from the military in 1973.

While in the service, the Florida-born aviator began a career in the film industry. He mostly worked as a producer and director. He established himself in 1933 with the film titled “King Kong”. He also worked on other popular films like “Mighty Joe Young” and “The Four Feathers”.
Family
He was born to Mary Caldwell and her lawyer husband John C. Cooper. He had two siblings. In 1933, he tied the knot with Dorothy Jordan, an actress. He had a son with Marjorie Crosby called Maciej Słomczyński.
Education
In 1911, he graduated from The Lawrenceville School.
Recognitions
His works in the military earned him laurels like the Cross of Valour, the Mexican Border Service Medal, and the Order of Virtuti Militari. A star has been placed on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame to celebrate his remarkable achievements in the film industry.
