About Meriwether Lewis
Meriwether Lewis was a renowned American explorer, politician and soldier best remembered for leading the iconic Lewis and Clark Expedition (the Corps of Discovery) along with his friend Lieutenant William Clark. He later went on to serve as the 2nd Governor of Missouri (Louisiana Territory) from 1807 until his death in 1809.

He was born to Lucy Meriwether and Lt. William Lewis. He never got married nor fathered any children.
Trivia
In 1801, U.S. President Thomas Jefferson appointed him as his private secretary.
He died mysteriously at the age of 35 from gunshot wounds. It still remains unclear whether he committed suicide or was murdered.
