About Michael Apted
Prior to Michael David Apted becoming famous for the documentary film series “Up”, he started a traineeship at Manchester-based Granada Television. The British director, writer and producer ended up working on nine instalments in the film series over a 56-year period. His other well-known directorial projects include the films “Coal Miner’s Daughter”, “Enigma” and “The World is Not Enough”.
Family Life
He was the son of Ronald William Apted and Frances Amelia Thomas. He had a daughter and three sons. Two of his sons were from his marriage to Jo Apted and the third son from his second marriage to screenwriter Dana Stevens. He got married for the third time in January 2014.
Achievements
He was the recipient of numerous British Academy Awards for his work. He also earned nominations from the Academy Awards and Golden Globes for his films.
Death
He was reported dead on 7 January 2021.
