About Miguel de Cervantes
Miguel de Cervantes was a noted Spanish novelist, poet, playwright and soldier considered by many to be the greatest Spanish writer of all time. Today, he is best remembered for his 1605 novel Don Quixote, which is widely regarded as one of the best novels ever published. His other notable works include Novelas ejemplares (Exemplary Novels) and Viaje al Parnaso (Journey to Parnassus).
Family Life
He was born to Rodrigo de Cervantes and Leonor de Cortinas. He got married to Catalina de Salazar y Palacios in 1584. The marriage was childless. He however, fathered a daughter named Isabel from a previous relationship.
Trivia
While serving as a soldier for his country, he lost the use of his left arm after being severely wounded in the Battle of Lepanto in 1571.
