Personal Life
Michael Ross Doughty was the name he was given at birth and he was raised around different places in New York on army bases including Fort Leavenworth and Fort Knox. When he became a teenager, he was enrolled in The New School.
Career
He started the band “Soul Coughing” when he was working at The Knitting Factory club as a doorman. In 1994, the band worked on “Ruby Vroom” then about two years later, they worked on and released “Irresistible Bliss” before releasing “El Oso” in 1998. In the year 2000, he left the band mostly because of his drug abuse problem. He abused heroin, opiates and alcohol among others and that affected him greatly. He released his first solo album titled “Skittish” in the year 2000 then about two years later, he worked on “Smofe + Smang: Live in Minneapolis”. Other albums he has worked on include “Sad Man Happy Man”, “Yes and Also Yes” and “The Question Jar Show”. He also released “The Flip is Another Honey” and “Circles, Super Bon Bon, and The Very Best of Soul Coughing”.
